John
De Witt has stepped forward as an interim Tournament Director whose
attitudes and ideas are identical to Wally Schmidt’s regarding the
courts and our game.
Wally’s stance remains, and as he states, “In order for a
tournament to be successful there are 2 requirements or
responsibilities.
These belong to the entrants and to the Tournament Director.
The
Tournament Director creates the format, which should be fair and equal
to all, essentially the pairings of the teams, more commonly called
“seeding the players”.
This is lost with late-arriving entrants, and the balance of the
bracketing is tilted, due to a deficient entry.
NOT FAIR!
The
players’ role or responsibility is to follow the format created which
includes the time set for entry, so the Tournament Director can create
as near as possible, all matches where the outcome will be in question.
It is that ingredient that makes every sporting event have that
special interest and appeal.
In
not having that opportunity, Wally Schmidt sits this one out.
I know my good friend John will do his best with what he has to
contend with, and I wish him well.
