What do you get when you put some of the most competitive, best
"black-ball" paddleball players from New York, New Jersey and Florida
together in a a great facility, throw in 10 beautiful trophies and prizes and
mix in some warm weather and Florida sunshine? You get a tournament that
competitors and spectators will be talking about for a long time! Promoter Henry
Marquez, assisted by Hoppy and Andy Here got one hell of an event going.
Play and competition was intense as teams competed for 5 places with the top
prize being the American Paddle Sports Association (APSA) Southeast Regional
Championship title at Flamingo Park in Miami Beach, Florida February 14th, 2004.
Throughout, good sportsmanship and strict officiating prevailed. In the
finals and favored to win were the team of Richie Miller and Robert Sostre but the
team of George and Jimmy were having none of it,
tying the score various times with great shots and gets, scorching
one-inch-above-the-short line serves and just plain tenaciousness. In the end, George and
Jimmy weren't able to hold and Rob and Richie took the well earned win and
the APSA SE Regional title.
I'm sure I speak for all the spectators present when I say
"Congratulations Robert and Richie. And thank you all, Gentlemen (and
ladies) for providing us with some of the sports moments we'll remember for a
very long time to come."
