"Big Blue"
As paddleball players many of us started off with
handball- and us "old" guys used to play with Spaldines. As I
hear it, today's Spaldines ain't quite what they used to be so the game
moved on to what most now call "Big Blue"- that is, blue
racquetballs. Many of us know what it takes to play well and can
appreciate a good match when we see one. So November 12, 2005, players fans
and lovers of the sport all converged at Flamingo Park in Miami Beach,
Florida to see some of the best in Big Blue shoot it out for the
biggest cash prize handball's seen yet. Most players came from New York,
but there was a local contingent too that though didn't win, represented
Hollywood Handball very well.
The action was furious and fast- these guys hit the ball
hard ! One's handball player's reputed to have beat one of
Flamingo Park's best 'ballers in an informal paddle vs. hand match.
That's playing, kids! There was handball almost everywhere one
looked- even the players' girl-friends were going at it amongst
themselves. As the sun went down, the cheering crowd was treated to some
killer handball- Tenaciousness vs. relentless attacks by the opposing
team which scored consistently at almost every serving opportunity
Though not a "landslide," the final score reflected a dominant
game for a convincing win. All appreciated the efforts these guys put
out! I'm not telling who the winners were here in this intro- though if
you're reading this page, you're a fan or player and already know,
right? No doubt!
Below are thumbnails of just some of the pictures I took
at the event. Click on a thumbnail to view the full size picture; hit

great event and to all the players who participated for playing your
best! Also thanks to G-Man and John for a well-run event and to Albert
Apuzzi for the photos and use of the camera when the batteries on mine
died.
